Hi, I’m Vira,
the photographer behind MonaVira Photography,
based in Sooke on Vancouver Island.
   I specialize in weddings, elopements, couples, and family photo sessions — moments filled with love, laughter, and a touch of adventure.
   Over the past few years, I’ve photographed more than 100 weddings — from intimate ocean-view elopements to 250-guest celebrations — across different cultures, religions, and continents. Each story teaches me something new about love, and honestly, I still get butterflies before every single one.

   My Photography Style
   My style is all about storytelling with heart, artistry, and a touch of editorial magic. I’m drawn to real emotions and the quiet, in-between moments — the ones that truly tell your story and flow like a beautiful, fairy-tale narrative.
   With a background in photojournalism and years of experience photographing couples across Europe and Canada, I blend documentary honesty with fine-art aesthetics — using vibrant yet timeless tones, thoughtful compositions, and versatile lighting. I’m comfortable working in natural light, studio setups, and with off-camera flash whenever needed — whether it’s a cozy indoor portrait, a sunset couple session, or a dynamic wedding reception.




   My Approach
   Many couples tell me, “We’re awkward in front of the camera,” and 10 minutes later they’re laughing, dancing, and forgetting I’m even there. That’s when the real magic happens — when you relax and simply be yourselves.
   My approach is simple: keep things easy, natural, and beautiful. No stiff poses — just authentic emotion and genuine connection.

   I’m proud to work with couples from many cultures and traditions. My experience includes civil ceremonies, Catholic church weddings, Chinese, Muslim and Indian celebrations, and LGBTQ+ weddings.
   Because for me, love is love — and every story deserves to be seen and remembered with care, respect, and heart.

   Beyond the Lens
   When I’m not photographing weddings, you’ll find me hiking new trails, scouting photo locations, attending local events for another creative project VanIsland.life, editing with tea in hand (and my cat on my lap!), or planning my next creative shoot.
